Koyama Dojo has some exciting news for current and interested students! Based on feedback from our recent survey, we are adding a new class on Friday @ 6 pm and extending all class times from 1-1/2 hours to 2 hours.
This Saturday, June 18th, Koyama Dojo will have a guest instructor visiting us, Shawn Dejong from Goderich Martial Arts in Canada. We are excited to host Shawn and encourage all students interested in training with Shawn on Saturday to attend!
Now that Koyama Dojo JuJutsu has a brand new Nidan in the ranks, Alex Santoro (in case you haven’t been following 😉), this was the perfect opportunity to brush up on Sandan waza and henka for the upper dans!
Hakko Denshin Ryu transitions are when you move from one principle to another, moving an attacker where you want them, typically in a strong control position.
Last Saturday’s class focused on advanced applications of the Yondan (4nd Dan) principle Shibori. Shibori is the only principle behind the devastating 16 waza taught in Hakko Denshin Ryu.
Last Saturday’s class focused on advanced applications of Nidan (2nd Dan) principles. Some of our student favorites were Konoha Gaeshi, Aya Dori, and Maki Komi. Learning the relationships between principles and how to transition between them is essential to controlling attackers.
In Hakko Denshin Ryu, we study waza (forms) and henka (practical applications). This past week, Shihan Evans covered fine points in waza and various transitions students can use to move from one submission principle to another.
Saturday’s class focused on effective strikes, setting armbars and how easily chokes can be applied in different positions.
